Eye and Vision Exams

The doctors and staff at Valley Vision Eye & Optical welcome Richfield area patients of all ages. Our team strives to provide quality, comprehensive eye care in a welcoming and friendly setting. When conducting eye exams, our eye doctors check your eyes for signs of diseases. Our optometrists also test for 20/20 vision and eye functionality. Our team is committed to providing the eye care you need starting with an eye and vision exam.

Examining Eye Health

Some diseases, such as glaucoma, do not alter a person's vision. The only way to effectively detect glaucoma is by conducting a pressure (tonometry) test. Our optometrists use a tonometer to perform the test, which is brief and painless. We use Optos for retinal imaging. Optos creates a map of your retina in less than half a second. Retinal imaging is another way our doctors check your eye health.

Eye and Vision Exams Check Vision Acuity

Poor eyesight or eye strain may cause headaches, shoulder tension, or even neck pain. In addition, it may cause problems or frustration for a student when trying to see information at the front of the classroom or reading a book or paper. During a vision exam, our optometrists check you for nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. During the vision portion of a comprehensive eye exam, our eye doctors will have you look at lines, arrows, and letters and ask you to read something close to your eye.

Eye Exams Test Eye Functionality

A person with 20/20 vision may still have eye problems. A simple vision test, such as reading an eye chart, does not test for eye functionality. For example, a black and white eye chart does not indicate if a person is colorblind or has tracking problems. Our eye doctors will also test muscle capabilities, eye movement, and depth perception during a comprehensive exam. If the eyes are not working together, double vision or other problems may occur in a person with binocular vision. A problem with eye functionality may also hamper a person's ability to play a particular sport or engage in a specific hobby.
